Final Fantasy 6 Review

From Guest blogger Helen Davis

Final Fantasy 6, or known as 3 in North America, is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. It  certainly ranks high on the nostalgia factor, and many iconic moments in Final Fantasy history are portrayed in this game. An unforgettable cast of characters, top-notch graphics for the time, a stunning soundtrack and an intriguing storyline keep the player hooked till the very end.  How does it hold up from a Christian perspective?

Very well, actually.  Though there are some moments that are questionable, mainly that one of the final bosses is based on the Virgin Mary, the plot throughout the game more than makes up for it.  Unlike FF9, which views souls as recyclable and life as meaningless, FF6 seems to incorporate more of the biblical worldview, or at least, not anti-biblical. Many of the characters face losses but deal with them in ways that are more consistent with Scripture—Locke feels remorse over the death of his first love, Rachel, believing he couldn't protect her.   He resolves his guilt at the end and decides to move onto his new love. Cyan loses his wife and child and is nearly destroyed, but receives his courage back, believing he must move on and leave the past in the past.  He later becomes a powerful asset to the party, although the Dreamscape sequence in the World of Ruin with Cyan is somewhat creepy. Celes tries to commit suicide after the loss of her only family member, but regains her courage and gathers the party back together.  Though the reason why she should not commit suicide is not addressed, the fact that she is able to recover, move on, and reunite the party shows why we should not.

The star of the show, though, I feel is Terra. Terra is, in many ways, quite similar to Christ. First of all, her Japanese name, Tina, is actually a shortening of Christina, a feminine form of Christ's name. She is also half human and half esper, and bridges the gap between them, much like Jesus bridges the gap between God and man.  Terra also desires to learn what love is, and finds it not in a carnal way, but in protecting the children in Mobliz. Terra is also unjustly accused and persecuted during the course of the game. At the end, Terra even offers to sacrifice herelf for the party, but remains on earth as a human, in a somewhat interesting parallel to Christ's resurrection.

Those who begrudge Final Fantasy females such as Aeris and Rinoa should look to Terra and Celes. Both women are strong female protagonists that overcome personal and exterior difficulties to emerge as leaders, Terra in the first half and Celes in the second.  Both are amazing women that complement each other and even form a friendship.

Kefka is also an interesting counterpart to Satan. Saying he wants to destroy all and create a monument to nonexistence is exactly what Satan wishes to do—in Jesus's words 'the thief comes but to steal, kill and destroy.' What words better sum up Kefka Palazzo?  The first scene of him shows him 'destroying' Terra's innocence and ordering her to 'kill kill kill!' The second scene has Kefka 'stealing' General Leo's authority over the Doman mission, killing many with poision, and 'destroying' Cyan's life. His horrors do not end here, as in the interlude on the Floating Continent, Kefka commands the warring triad to strike down Emperor Gestahl so Kefka can rule- an allegory to Satan trying to usurp God. Kefka is later known as destruction and seems to be completely evil with no redeeming qualities, unlike villians such as Golbez or Sephiroth, who at least showed remorse or motive.

The end of the game shows the cast finding joy in spite of the fact the world is nearly dead. Terra has found love. Locke and Celes have found each other. Cyan carries his family inside of him. Gau has his friends. Sabin and Edgar have each other. Setzer has his dream After threatening to destroy  all their dreams and hopes, Terra counters that life continues and that it's not the end result of life that matters, but the day to day joys of life and love.

Is FF6 perfect? No. But in comparison to the poison of FF7's recyclable souls and FF9's 'our memories live on', it's a breath of fresh air. Highly recommended.

Top 5 Reasons Why Your PUBG Is Lagging And How To Solve It?

It has become a common thing to lag in big games like PUBG, Apex legends etc. Especially, if we are in a serious situation
and at that moment PUBG lags then our frustration and angriness go beyond the limit. This has become a serious problem even for a pro player. So if you are looking for the solution to this problem then you have visited the right place. This post will mention the reasons for which PUBG lags and the solution to it.

pubg lag
Why PUBG lags?

Reasons and solutions to PUBG lag :

1. Running of unnecessary apps in the background:

Believe it or not but just running unnecessary apps or installing any app or updating an app in the background decreases your internet speed which finally results in PUBG lagging

Solution:   So, if you want to keep a distance from lagging make sure that there are no online apps running in the background. And avoid updating or installing any app at that time.

2. Bandwidth limits set by your ISP(Internet Service Provider):

If your internet speed is good but still your PUBG lags whereas you can run other online apps such as Youtube etc easily then there is a high chance that your ISP might have set limits in that particular game.
For example- Sometimes the ISP set 25% bandwidth only for games and the rest 75% for other online apps. This is done to distribute the internet equally otherwise it would become difficult for normal people to surf the internet.

Solution: In that case, you can change your ISP or simply use a VPN. There are many free gaming VPNs present on the internet. You can use one to increase your internet speed. This can decrease PUBG lagging to a great extent.

3. Excess heating of PC or mobile:

pubg lag
Excess heating of Smartphone

While playing any game, you must ensure that your CPU or phone should not heat too much. In case of excess heating, your game will surely lag because heat is the biggest enemy of the processor and hence the processor is unable to work properly. For such reasons, gaming PCs are specially designed for proper cooling.

Solution: Ensure the proper cooling of the laptop or computer and in case of mobile you should let it rest for some time to attain normal temperature.

Note: You should never play games on a mobile while it's charging. This not only makes your phone hot but also it is unhealthy for your battery and sometimes if the battery is a low-quality battery, the battery can even burst.

You can visit this article for more information on overheating of phones.
You can visit this website to know how to cool down your android phone.

4. Your PC or mobile does not meet the recommended requirements of the game:

Why my pubg lags
Requirements don't meet

This is a well-known problem. Sometimes PUBG can lag because your device can lack many components including processor or graphics card or GPU or RAM or Memory or any other component. In that case, though your ping may be okay still the PUBG will lag.

Solution: If you are highly addicted to this game and want to play the game anyhow without lagging you can change the components of the PC while in case of mobile you need to buy a new mobile.

To know the minimum and recommended requirements of PUBG PC click here.

5.  Playing in the farthest server:

Another reason for which your PUBG is lagging is that you are playing in a server far away from you. In PUBG there is an option to select servers like Asia, Europe etc. If you belong to Asia and playing in Europe server then your PUBG may lag since it takes time to communicate and get a response from them.

Solution: You should play at the nearest server. For example, if you live in the Asian continent you should play at Asia server while if you live in America you should play the South or North America server. You can notice less PUBG lag if you play in your nearest server.

Note: The above reasons are also applicable to the whole internet services. You might have noticed that sometimes though your internet speed is very high but still many websites or pages take too much time to reload. This is because their server is very far and takes too much time to communicate with them.

If you are suffering excess lagging of PUBG, you can complain at the official PUBG support page by clicking here

THE SACRED MIRROR OF KOFUN

by HeroOfAvalon

With each generation, there is a successful new type of game that spawns many a copycat clone as gaming companies chase the financial success of that title. This current generation we have the model of games as service, the last generation Call of Duty spawned many copycats. A fair amount of generations before these, first-person point-and-click puzzle games were the genre-du-jour thank to the inspiration and popularity of Myst. Let's look at one such clone from 1996; The Sacred Mirror of Kofun.

My Presentation For DIGRA 2018 - Playing With A Brand: The Brazilian McDonald's Paper Tray Case

I want to share my expanded abstract for DIGRA conference 2018. I'll be in Turin in the next week for the event. =)

• • •

Playing with a brand: the Brazilian McDonald's paper tray case

Keywords:
McDonald's, board game, Facebook bot, paper tray, marketing

Taking communication, marketing and entertainment as leading and intertwining landmarks of contemporary culture, this paper discusses an advertising piece from Brazilian McDonald's restaurants, which uses a gaming interface to cast a branding message to its consumers. Acknowledging the prominence of digital networks in today's mediapolis (Silverstone 2006), where mass self communication (Castells 2009) poses new challenges to understanding current modes of sociability and consumption, our focus will be directed to one promotional board game presented in the paper used to protect the food tray in McDonald's Brazilian restaurants. Created by the Brazilian advertising agency DPZ&T and launched in October 2017, the game uses a "race to the end" mechanic and could be played from one to four players using a Facebook bot.

Figure 1: McDonald's promotional paper tray using a board game with a Facebook bot interaction.

To play the game, one player must scan the special code using the app "Facebook Messenger" in their smartphone. The code starts a special bot that sends quizzes, enigmas, and trivia questions about McDonald's to the players. Each correct answer allows players to advance their pawn in the trail. The player who wins the race receives one special chance to earn a prize (pack of French fries, ice cream etc.) from McDonald's.

In the first part of the presentation, following the thoughts of Fullerton et al. (2008 15-16), we analyze the game design process for a promotional game. Based on information provided by the agency, we discuss the conceptual stage and the necessity to align gameplay with the marketing message; we also discuss how a prototype is created in this case, and how the beta test sessions occurred. In the end, we present technical information about how the final version is implemented with the interface between the board game (in the paper tray) and the Facebook bot (in the smartphone).

In the second part of the presentation, we highlight the strategic use of entertainment languages by companies in their marketing campaigns in the contemporary scenario, and how social media and mobile devices contribute to accelerate the process in this ecosystem. Following the idea that the quotidian is filled with playgrounds (Bogost 2016) where we can access entertainment anytime/anywhere, we discuss how companies like McDonald's are managing these aspects to promote brand and sell products.

In conclusion, we present data and results from the McDonald's paper tray board game. Since the game uses a digital interface, it is possible to collect data from the players, geo-locating information and inserting questions about the brand to test how players know about the company. We discuss how these data collected can be used in future campaigns or new promotional actions using games.

PUBG 4 New Upcoming Updates Of 2019

PUBG  never stays back in surprising us. This time PUBG is bringing 4 new updates which will seriously shock you and will change the way you play the game.

Though these updates are still a concept, PUBG is trying its best to convert these concepts into reality

Below are the 4 surprising PUBG's new updates :

1. RIOT SHIELD :

Before describing the riot shield, I must ask you if you have seen the official PUBG trailer video. If yes, then you might have seen a scene where a player was using a shield to protect himself from the bullets and grenades. If you have not watched the video, you can still watch it here.

Shield as seen in PUBG official video

PUBG Corp is trying to add this weapon into the game. But unlike pan(which also acts as a shield), the riot shield will have some health and after some firings or bursting of grenades, the shield will either break or just disappear.

2. Digital Binocular :

A binocular will also be found in PUBG very soon. This digital binocular can zoom in up to 15×. It will help players to see up to a long distance and track enemies.

3. Truck vehicle :

A new vehicle truck will also be added in the future. While playing PUBG you might have noticed destroyed or unusable trucks in various locations. A modified version of this truck will be added which will carry upto 8 persons.

Unusable Truck

4. Harley Quinn and Joker outfit :

This was planned before the beginning of Season 4 but only the joker's hair was available in Season 5. But now there is a hope because we might be using it in Season 6.

Outfits

Note : Though there is no guarantee but the first three updates might be available in 0.13 update and the fourth update in Season 6.

Which of the above given updates, according to you, will be the most useful one and why? Please tell us in the comments section below.

All Aboard The S.S. Anne!

My first morning in Vermilion City, I found myself down at the docks pushing my way through the crowds. Vermilion Port was easily the busiest place I'd ever been in my life up to that point. The sheer number of ships and trucks moving goods in and out of the Kanto region was overwhelming. Even still, the S.S. Anne stood out of the crowd as a majestic ocean liner built for luxurious and excessive lifestyles. It's glorious, gleaming white hull was a beacon you could see almost anywhere in Vermilion City. I'd had my eye on her since I came into town the night before and I had no trouble finding my way to the pier at which she was docked. Getting on to that pier without a ticket or an invitation to the tournament was a trial all its own. I spent most of the morning looking for a way past security.
The story of how I got aboard the S.S. Anne is a story of chance encounters and dumb luck. The first of which was a man fishing off the end of an unused pier. I was attempting to get a better vantage point of the S.S. Anne at the time, but I was also curious about the old fisherman. I sat with him a moment and he showed me how he supported himself just fishing up Pokémon out of the Vermilion Bay. After spending perhaps half an hour watching and listening to his old fish tales, he offered me one of his old rods that he wasn't too attached to. I was surprised at his generosity and thanked him graciously. He said the old rod wasn't great at pulling up any big catches, but it was a good starter rod to learn how to handle myself. I was eager to try it out.
There didn't seem to be any restrictions posted on where you were allowed to fish in Vermilion Port, so I plopped myself down right at the edge of the S.S.Anne pier. I cast my line into the waters and waited. Patiently. For a long time. As I sat there on the edge of the dock, I could hear battles going on the deck above me. I could hear the whoops and cheers of the gathered crowds as local trainers, decadent cruise passengers, and members of the crew fought for fun and money. I knew that as long as there were trainers ready to battle, the registration for this exhibition would be open, but I had to get aboard soon.
There was a tug on the line! A new type of Pokémon battle had begun. It was my strength and determination against that of whatever was on the other end of that line. I struggled for several minutes, worried that this old rod would snap clear in half at the tension on the line. Finally, a red scaled fish Pokémon lurched out of the water and flopped on to the pier. I frowned slightly. It was a Magikarp. I should have known. It was too weak to weaken, so I had Arnold put it to sleep and I carefully tried to get it into a Pokéball. The damn thing casually slapped 4 of my balls into the ocean in its fitful slumber before finally being secured in the 5th ball. I named him Royal, and although he was weak now, I had some big dreams for Royal in the distant future.
I had no idea at the time, but the entire Magikarp episode was being watched by a gentleman nearby. I called out Royal to get a good look at him and size up his potential - which admittedly was limited right now. As I was gazing down at him, a firm hand clasped my shoulder.
"I say, good show, old sport. Good show."
"Thank you," I managed to sputter in sudden confusion.
"Oh, I daresay, where are my manners? My name is Reginald and I'm the Chairman of the Pokémon Fan Club. We are headquartered right here in Vermilion City! I have personally collected over 100 Pokémon and I'm very fussy when it comes to Pokémon. I see you are less fussy and I admire your spirit, old sport." He motioned to Royal. "I could never bother myself with Pokémon like that, but there is something special about you. Come now, join me aboard the S.S. Anne, would you? I can see you are itching to join the tournament. Meanwhile, let me tell you all about my favorite Pokémon, Rapidash. It is the most spectacular and ravishing of all the Pokémon, don't you agree?"
All I really heard was "join me aboard the S.S. Anne" and I was packing up my belongings as quickly as I could. While Chairman Reginald prattled on and on about Rapidash, my attention was mainly focused on shoving the old rod into my backpack, and making sure my Boulder and Cascade Badges were clearly visible. I wanted everyone to know how far I'd come as we made our way on board the cruise ship.

Once aboard, I listened to Chairmain Reginald talk about Rapidash for what felt like an eternity a polite amount of time considering the great favor he'd just done for me. Eventually I excused myself and I found my way to the registration desk. I showed off my two badges and was put into a mid-level bracket. The tournament was scored on a point system where trainers lost the most points when their Pokémon fainted, and since I was determined not to allow them to faint I was sure to score very highly in the preliminary matches.
All the matches were happening along the promenade deck with spectators above able to look down into most of the arenas that were setup. As I stood along the promenade, it was crowded and difficult to see much, but I managed to push my way toward my first match-up near the aft of the ship. I was going to face off against an older gentlemen who happened to be a passenger aboard the cruise wanting to test his skill against the Kanto trainers. I was nervous, but also excited. He opened with a Growlithe - a Pokémon I'd never seen before. It was obviously a fire-type and so Douglas was the right choice. He needed the battle experience, as well.
Growlithe was faster than I anticipated! He landed a desperate attack on Douglas's head which nearly incapacitated him. I was shocked. I'd almost lost a Pokémon due to my overconfidence in type match-ups. I switched out Douglas for Rascal Jr. hoping to get the edge in speed. My swap paid off because Rascal Jr. landed a monstrous hyper fang on this Growlithe and knocked it completely out. The crowd went wild at this turn around and I remember how uplifting it made me feel. I couldn't help from smiling like a fool.
The passenger tossed out another Growlithe who met the same OHKO fate to the power of Rascal Jr. To punctuate just how amazing Rascal's victory over the Growlithe duo actually was, Rascal Jr. evolved into a Raticate in front of the entire crowd. It generated some hushed awe from the spectators, but I was just ecstatic to see Rascal Jr. grow in power. Rascal and I were victorious in our first match, but there were still several more ahead of us before we'd meet with the captain.

Brave Browser voted the best privacy-focused product of 2020

Out of all the privacy-focused products and apps available on the market, Brave has been voted the best. Other winners of Product Hunt's Golden Kitty awards showed that there was a huge interest in privacy-enhancing products and apps such as chats, maps, and other collaboration tools.

An extremely productive year for Brave

Last year has been a pivotal one for the crypto industry, but few companies managed to see the kind of success Brave did. Almost every day of the year has been packed witch action, as the company managed to officially launch its browser, get its Basic Attention Token out, and onboard hundreds of thousands of verified publishers on its rewards platform.

Luckily, the effort Brave has been putting into its product hasn't gone unnoticed.

The company's revolutionary browser has been voted the best privacy-focused product of 2019, for which it received a Golden Kitty award. The awards, hosted by Product Hunt, were given to the most popular products across 23 different product categories.

Ryan Hoover, the founder of Product Hunt said:

"Our annual Golden Kitty awards celebrate all the great products that makers have launched throughout the year"

Brave's win is important for the company—with this year seeing the most user votes ever, it's a clear indicator of the browser's rapidly rising popularity.

Privacy and blockchain are the strongest forces in tech right now

If reaching 10 million monthly active users in December was Brave's crown achievement, then the Product Hunt award was the cherry on top.

The recognition Brave got from Product Hunt users shows that a market for privacy-focused apps is thriving. All of the apps and products that got a Golden Kitty award from Product Hunt users focused heavily on data protection. Everything from automatic investment apps and remote collaboration tools to smart home products emphasized their privacy.

AI and machine learning rose as another note-worthy trend, but blockchain seemed to be the most dominating force in app development. Blockchain-based messaging apps and maps were hugely popular with Product Hunt users, who seem to value innovation and security.

For those users, Brave is a perfect platform. The company's research and development team has recently debuted its privacy-preserving distributed VPN, which could potentially bring even more security to the user than its already existing Tor extension.

Brave's effort to revolutionize the advertising industry has also been recognized by some of the biggest names in publishing—major publications such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, NDTV, NPR, and Qz have all joined the platform. Some of the highest-ranking websites in the world, including Wikipedia, WikiHow, Vimeo, Internet Archive, and DuckDuckGo, are also among Brave's 390,000 verified publishers.
